As with any project there are a few bugs, problems and other
items in the dx2web module that need a little work.
Features missing in WebOOGL
support for web browsers other than Mosaic
conversion filters to VRML (as of 5/23/95)
Geomview application for Mac or PC
Features missing in DX2Web module
Support for the opacity of objects
does not convert transforms
only handles RGB color values (not colormaps or HSV)
does not translate meshes, lines, polylines
does not support embedded HTML objects
Looking towards the future
The future of the WebOOGL format is uncertain. Most likely it
will be discarded as a VRML alternative that did not make it. In
the present however, WebOOGL is a viable alternative to Gopher+,
SGI's OpenGL subset and the other means of getting
three-dimensional graphics onto the web. Currently, objects can
be ported to the WebOOGL format and in the future filters will be
made available to convert existing WebOOGL documents to VRML.
