Abstract

This project presents a new tool to help facilitate good pedestrain walkway design. The computer program IWalkways visually encodes two fundamental heuristics for pedesitran walkway design- the local cost of creating a walkway segment and if the angles between the segments are adequate for pedestrian use. This information is graphically presented to the designer so that they will make better informed decisions during the design process. Included in this work is the Java prototype IWalkways which can be run with any Java enabled browser on the Internet.
