Implementation of a transmitter for generating AM and FM RF signals for a laboratory platform illustrating digital modulation principles

The use of a "software" radio built around new digital ICs requires a complemetary transmitter system. A "software" digital transmitter was designed and built last year by Francis Cheong and Frank Lui that can generate AM and FM modulations that are to be demodulated with software receivers designed as a separate project. Final implementation requires some further efforts.

A number of integrated circuits from Analog Devices provide most of the functionality. (See part numbers below.) Prototyping boards with these ICs were used in last year's designs.
