Description of WNL M.Eng Projects for the 2007/8 Academic Year

Project #1: Implementation of an ad hoc routing protocol

Brief Synopsis: In this project, the student will implement the Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP), which is a hybrid ad hoc routing protocol. The implementation platform will be in JiST (http://jist.ece.cornell.edu). This is a two-semesters project.

Needed skills: Excellent programming in Java. Basic course in computer networks.

Project #2: Generic Event-Driven Simulator

Brief Synopsis: In this project, the student will implement a framework for general even-driven simulations. The project will be done in C or C++. Additionally, for extra credit, the student will implement a GUI to the framework. This can be either a one- or two-semesters project.

Needed skills: Excellent programming skills in C/C++. Experience with simulation tools. Basic knowledge of computer networks. Experience with GUI design would be useful.

Project #3: Study of epidemic routing protocols

Brief Synopsis: In this project, the student will compare a number of variations of epidemic routing protocols, which were described in the technical literature. This is a two-semester project and involves stochastic modeling and possibly use of simulation tools.

Needed skills: Knowledge of computer communication protocols. Experience with stochastic modeling. Experience with simulation tools.
