Observations
These experiments shed some light on the possibilities and limitations of this technique of textual research. Following a Marshall McLuhan principle that observes that any new medium learns from the older versions, I decided to first try out visualizing text information in the form of an extended book. There are many limitations to this approach but I felt it would be best to at least look see what multilayered text looks like before moving on to an entirely different form. As I mentioned earlier on, I consider this only a prototype of what these tools can eventually provide. I welcome comments and new strategies for improving the visual techniques and the basic paradigms utilized in this work.
Acknowledgments
I would like to thank several people who were key in making these visualizations reality:Dr.Bruce Land who provided essential assistance in the use of Data Explorer and to the project in general. Also thanks to the Cornell Theory Center for support.
