Abstract:
A low-cost, mid-level electrical engineer all-in-one toolkit for Android is presented. The wireless, battery-powered toolkit, no larger than the Samsung Galaxy series smartphones, features Bluetooth connectivity, a two-channel oscilloscope, a signal generator, an 8-bit 3.3/5V logic analyzer, and a bipolar 12V supply with auxiliary power. Work performed during the fall 2015 semester focuses on proof of concept of a single system: the wireless oscilloscope. After discovering a limitation in communication data rates and microcontroller processing power, the spring 2016 term yielded success with a new communications module and FPGA implementation. A dual-channel oscilloscope with triggering and online data evaluation has been implemented. Current and future work includes custom hardware design and firmware drivers for the other systems.
