Conclusions

Overall we are satisfied with the results of our project. We set out to make a device that could teach someone how to play the keyboard. Two of us had never played a piano before and after a few attempts were capable of playing simple melodies just with the help of our keyboard, so we would call it a success. There are still many possible extensions and improvements such as adding timing for rhythm and a score for how accurately the keys were pressed but the keyboard accomplished our main objective. While all of the code running on the PIC is our own, we purchased and did not design the actual keyboard which is a consideration to have if attempting to patent the design. There are also already similar keyboards which light up the next key to press so this is not an entirely new idea, although none of the keyboards we found also display sheet music like ours does.
