Introduction

Playing with 1.2 million particles rendered at 60 frames per second

We designed, implemented, and tested an HPP cellular automaton that can be visualized on a 640 by 480 VGA screen. The HPP model is a fundamental lattice gas automaton for the simulation of gases and liquids (quote from Wikipedia). In addition to the functionality of particle simulation, our system also supports various user interactions for exploring the infinite possibilities with up to 1.2 million particles.

Our design provides 4 different initialization patterns. Users can use a mouse to add particles/obstacles or erase particles/obstacles. 7 add-particle patterns are available, together with the pause and artist mode buttons. It is perfect for both enjoying by yourself or having fun with families or friends.

We hope that users of our product can find peace of mind by interacting and observing patterns on the screen. We imagine someone on the brink of a mental breakdown could calm down by looking at the peaceful color palette (inspired by Hatsune Miku) and creating emergent behaviors that no one has seen before.
